SEPLAT OIL RIG TRAGEDY (VIDEO)



Seplat energy oil rig collapsed in Delta claims 1 life, leaved 3 missing.


In a tragic incident near Ovhor in Delta, a Seplat Energy oil rig collapsed, resulting in the loss of one life, while three individuals remain missing. Seplat Energy, through its CEO Roger Brown, confirmed the event via a statement posted on their X platform (formerly Twitter).


According to the statement, the oil company expressed its regret over the incident involving the Depthwise swamp drilling rig 'Majestic,' which was en route to its designated drilling location at Ovhor in Delta State when it capsized. Of the 96-member crew, 92 have been successfully accounted for and confirmed as safe.


Seplat Energy conveyed its condolences to the family and friends of the crew member who lost their life and expressed concerns for the three crew members who are still unaccounted for at the time of the statement. The company assured that emergency response and rescue efforts, in collaboration with the rig owner and authorities, have been initiated and are presently underway at the site.


Emphasizing their topmost priority, the statement noted that the safety and well-being of all affected personnel and their families continue to be of utmost concern. The company pledged to release additional information as they gain a better understanding of the incident and announced their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation into the root cause of the accident.
