"Lawyers urged Emefiele to face Journalists instead of avoiding them"
The defense attorneys of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, protected him from reporters following his court appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.
Emefiele, who has been in custody since his suspension on June 9, 2023, faces allegations of granting corrupt advantages to Yaro, a director at April 1616 Investment Ltd.
In a video clip, the embattled former head of the apex bank can be observed evading journalists who had surrounded him as he received a phone call in the witness box.
Upon concluding his call, Emefiele attempted to leave the courtroom with his head lowered, but his lawyers, who accompanied him, advised against it.
In Yoruba language, the lawyers could be heard advising, "Walk with dignity, don't cower."
