Yesterday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike cautioned against paying ransom to bandits, noting it fuels the issue. The federal government echoed this, warning against crowdfunding for ransom, citing existing laws.
Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru emphasized this at the 2024 FEC meeting. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun vowed decisive action against kidnappers and armed bandits in Abuja, launching a special police unit for the purpose.
Simultaneously, FCT Development Control started compiling a list of shanties and informal settlements in Abuja to address insecurity.
