EYE TRANSPLANT BREAKTHROUGH

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, a team of New York surgeons successfully conducted the world's first whole eye transplant.

The procedure, performed at NYU Langone Health, involved grafting the entire left eye and part of the face from a donor onto Aaron James, a line worker from Arkansas who had suffered severe injuries, including the loss of his left eye, in a high-voltage electric shock incident.

Led by Eduardo Rodriguez, the 21-hour surgery utilized 3D cutting guides for precision. While James is not yet able to see, the transplanted left eye shows promising signs of health, offering hope for the future.
