CONTRACT VARIATIONS FRUSTRATE FCT MINISTER

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, expressed his frustration over the frequent contract variations in the territory. He lamented that despite his commitment to completing abandoned projects, he continues to encounter requests for contract changes.

During his inspection of the Lower Usuma Dam in Bwari, he questioned why the Usuma Water system contract, initially awarded as an emergency project in 2017 for N20 billion and later revised to N50 billion in 2020, now requires an additional N900 million to reach 90 percent completion.

Wike emphasized his determination to overhaul the system and expressed concern about the alarming contract variations, such as the jump from N10 billion to N120 billion and N50 billion to N200 billion in FCDA contracts.

He also revealed his decision to reassess the Usuma Water System project, which had been labeled an emergency but had not been fully awarded, and promised to ensure a transparent procurement process involving multiple companies.
