The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Florence Obi, suspended Prof. Cyril Ndifon from his role as Dean of the Faculty of Law. Ndifon is also barred from entering the campus unless invited by a panel investigating allegations of sexual assault against female students.
The suspension, effective from August 17, 2023, was conveyed in a letter signed by the registrar of the university, Gabriel Egbe. Ndifon had been previously suspended in 2015 for a similar allegation.
Recently, female law students protested, calling for his removal, displaying signs with slogans such as "Ndifon Must Go!" and "Law Girls Are Not Bonanza." Ndifon denied the allegations, attributing the protest to individuals trying to undermine him within the faculty.
