Former Zamfara Governor, Sani Yerima, has urged President Bola Tinubu to engage in dialogue with bandits, drawing a parallel with the late former President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's successful dialogue with Niger Delta militants.
Yerima emphasized the importance of the government sitting down with these bandits, considering that the majority of them are Nigerians, although there may be some foreigners among them. He believes that Nigerian bandits can be persuaded to abandon their activities and be empowered, similar to how the Niger Delta militants were convinced to cease their actions.
However, Yerima also acknowledged that if dialogue fails to yield positive results, the government should resort to the use of force against the bandits, wherever they may be found.
