'Mmesoma will not be abandoned': Soludo initiated three-month psychotherapy session for her.

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra state has taken decisive action to support Ejikeme Mmesoma by enrolling her in a three-month psychotherapy program for guidance and counseling.

The announcement was made by Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state commissioner for education, during a briefing in Awka, the state capital, on Thursday.

Psychotherapy, a process that helps individuals address behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that may lead to distress or issues, will aid Mmesoma in her journey.

We recalled that Mmesoma gained widespread attention when she initially claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) later revealed her actual score to be 249, and she confessed to forging the result.

As a consequence, JAMB withdrew her result and suspended her from taking the exam for three years. Subsequently, Mmesoma appeared before a house of representatives ad hoc committee investigating the alleged forgery of her result, where she pleaded for leniency, citing ignorance as a contributing factor in her actions.

Addressing the matter, the commissioner stated that the governor's directive came after the recommendation of a committee established by the state to investigate the case. She emphasized that the state will engage with JAMB management to appeal on behalf of the student and request them to reconsider certain aspects of her situation.

Chuma-Udeh underscored that the state views Mmesoma's actions as 'juvenile delinquency,' recognizing that any child could become susceptible to such mistakes. Hence, the state government decided not to abandon her but instead offer support through a psychotherapist counselor who will guide her during the three-month therapy session. Following this period, the government will appeal to JAMB management on her behalf for a reconsideration.
