EMEFIELE GRANTED STUDY LEAVE

According to reports, President Muhammadu Buhari has granted Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, study leave.

This move allows Emefiele to leave the country before Buhari's term ends on May 29, 2023, amidst corruption and terrorism financing allegations against him.

However, sources say that the Department of State Services (DSS) is unhappy with this development as it means Emefiele could evade justice. In 2022, the DSS accused Emefiele of financing terrorism, committing economic crimes, and mismanaging the CBN subsidiary, NISRAL, and the Anchor Borrowers Program.

The agency requested a court warrant to arrest the CBN governor, but it was not granted by Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, due to an irregularity in the procedure adopted by the DSS.

Emefiele has also been accused of sponsoring "unknown gunmen" terrorizing Southeast Nigeria and nursing presidential ambitions.
