LAGOS OBA MOVES TO SEIZE 300 HOMES; OWNERS ARE MOSTLY IGBOS

The Onikate of Ikate, Surulere, Lagos, Oba Lateef Atanda Adams, is staking claim to the entirety of the land measuring 315.9 acres in the enclave, which has caused panic among homeowners, property owners, and other residents of the Surulere neighbourhoods covering Masha Roundabout, Adelabu Road, and some inner streets.

With the words "IKD/288/68 possession taken today 30/3/2923 by court," no fewer than 300 buildings that are located within the land area have been identified.

On the grounds that the state government did not compensate the family/original landowners when the land was acquired about 40 years ago, as required by the Land Use Act of 1978, Oba Adams is threatening to reclaim the entire land from the current occupants.

The traditional leader urged the owners of the impacted properties to come with any supporting documentation they may have to speed up a settlement.

They ought to allow us to settle this issue down before it spirals out of control, said Oba Adams. They ought to come and establish regular contact with us. In court, they will not prevail. They must show up, or I will destroy everything. We require their assistance. Give the government my number so we can arrange a roundtable. "

One of the homeowners, Tunde Oladeji, recalled what actually transpired: "Last week, some individuals accompanied by about 50 men from the Mobile Police force invaded the neighborhood, pasted posters, and marked buildings with the notice "Possession Taken.".
