WHY INEC POSTPONES MARCH 11 ELECTIONS

The governorship and state assembly elections scheduled for Saturday have been postponed to March 18, 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), pending any further delays.

This decision was made because INEC was unable to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used in the February 25 presidential election for use in the state elections in a timely manner.

Prior to the postponement, INEC was prevented from altering the BVAS machines' information until an inspection was carried out and Certified True Copies (CTC) were provided to candidates contesting the results of the presidential election.
