UK PRIME MINISTER RESIGNS

The UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss has resigned after 45 days in office.

Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned as UK Prime Minister in a statement outside Downing Street.

She said she could not fulfill the mandate that she had been elected and she had informed the king that she would step down as her leader of the Tories.

There will be elections for the Conservative leadership next week, she says.

She comes after she met the chairman of the Backbench Committee of Parliamentarians in 1922 when more conservatives demanded that she resign.

Truss's premiership has come under renewed pressure following the resignation of the interior minister and a chaotic vote on fracking.

On Wednesday evening there was a furor around the vote and the methods used to persuade MPs to vote with the government.
