FEDERAL UNIVERSITY, DUTSE: THIS INSTITUTION EXPELS 485 STUDENTS OVER THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

The University management says more students will be expelled soon.
The Federal University, Dutse has reportedly expelled 485 students because of their poor academic performance and examination malpractices.
The expelled students according to Premium Times were drawn from all academic departments as the university management said more students would soon be expelled.

While addressing journalists on Friday, October 5, 2018, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed said ''more students will soon be expelled for participating in examination malpractice, we’re waiting for the outcome of a committee report that is currently checking the cases of examination malpractice''

Mohammed said the university followed the ”National University Commission’s guidelines before arriving at the decision”

He added that the NUC guidelines state how a student should be promoted, withdrawn or expelled.

”We have to prove that through a rigorous investigation before we can conclude that a student is guilty of the crime.

“The university has over 6000 students, the number of the expelled students is exceptionally high this year because, in the course of checking our results, we noticed that there are students who have overstayed their ‘residence’, they are supposed to have graduated yet they (have) lived in the campus for more than six years.

“The action was taken to sanitise the system in the university. Next year, the number will not be so because this year we checked our results thoroughly, that’s why the number is higher, he said.

The Deputy VC, therefore, urges any student who feels that his/her dismissal is unjustified to come forward and appeal the management's decision.
