Federal Government Fines British American Tobacco $110 Million for Alleged Violations


The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has imposed a $110 million fine on British American Tobacco and its affiliates for alleged breaches of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, National Tobacco Control Act, and other legal instruments. 


The FCCPC announced the decision, outlining additional measures such as a 24-month compliance and monitoring period, mandatory public health and tobacco control advocacy, and written assurances to the commission. The move follows an active investigation initiated on August 28, 2020, based on credible information and intelligence.
