A woman, identified as Mrs. Hope Nwala from Obite community, severely injured her husband, Mr. Ekelediri Nwankwo, by pouring scalding hot vegetable oil on him in their Okehi community home in Etche Local government area of Rivers State.
Prior to the oil incident, she had also struck him with a hammer. The dispute began when Mr. Nwankwo confronted his wife's sister about her inappropriate behavior in their shared bed and her close association with another man.
In an attempt to address the situation, he provided his wife's sister with two thousand naira for transportation home, but this upset his wife, leading to the violent altercation in which she used hot oil and a hammer on him.
