A 15-year-old herder named Adamu Ibrahim was arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for cutting off a farmer's hand with a machete during a fight over intrusion into the victim's farmland. The incident occurred on August 24, 2023.
The victim had repeatedly complained to the suspect's father about his son's encroachments on his rice farmland.
The police intervened swiftly to prevent tensions from escalating between farmers and herders.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, warned herders against trespassing on farmlands and directed that the suspect be charged once the investigation is completed.
