Nigerian Troops and Vigilante Group Dismantle IPOB Camps, Arrest Nine Militants in Anambra West and South

As part of their ongoing efforts to establish peace and security in the South East region of Nigeria, the troops of 302 Regiment, operating under the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, collaborated with the Anambra Vigilante Group to take down camps belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network. The successful operation took place in Oroma and Umuewelum Anam, located in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State.

On July 23, 2023, the troops conducted a thorough raid on the identified camps, aiming to disrupt the illicit activities of the militant groups in these communities. During the operation, they successfully seized one AK 47 Rifle, one AKMS Rifle, three Lexus SUVs, and two Motorcycles. Additionally, eight brigands were apprehended in the process.

In a separate operation, the troops also targeted an IPOB camp situated at Mmiata Anam in Anambra South. During the encounter with the irredentist group, one IPOB fighter was neutralized, while another was taken into custody alive. The troops further managed to recover one AK 47 Rifle, one dane gun, and police uniforms during this operation.

The Nigerian Army calls upon all law-abiding citizens and particularly the peace-loving people of the South East to continue their support and cooperation with the troops and other security agencies in their relentless efforts to put an end to the challenges afflicting the region.
