IG SUMMON EDO POLICEMEN FOR OFFICER RUNNING OVER CITIZEN

Edo Policemen Summoned to Abuja by Inspector-General of Police following incident of vehicle running over a victim.

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed his strong condemnation of a distressing incident where a police team ran over a citizen with a vehicle on Thursday, June 29, 2023, in Ekpoma, Edo State.

In response, he has directed the implicated policemen, who were already in custody in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday for further necessary action.

In a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was emphasized that the current leadership of the NPF will not tolerate such unprofessional and illegal behavior, urging the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, to remain calm.

Adejobi, expressing his disbelief at the incident, emphasized the urgency for immediate action to be taken by the police force. He also confirmed that he had personally communicated with the state police commissioner regarding the matter.

Disturbing Video Depicts Nigerian Police Officers in Minibus Running Over Handcuffed Man in Edo.

A disturbing video has surfaced, revealing a handcuffed man being run over by several police officers in a minibus in Ekpoma, Edo State.

The video captures the victim lying on the ground in front of the patrol car. Local residents were engaging in a conversation with the police when suddenly, one of the officers behind the wheel moved the vehicle forward, running over the victim. The helpless man had one of the tires roll over him before the driver eventually stopped the vehicle, despite the repeated shouts from residents that the victim was underneath it.

The video footage has drawn strong criticism, with one individual stating, "Nigerian police @police is extremely heartless. See how they knocked down this young man and later crushed him. He is currently at Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State, fighting for his life."

In response to this incident, Adejobi expressed disbelief that a person, let alone a law enforcement officer, could commit such a horrific act by using a vehicle to harm another human being.

He stated, "This is unpolice. I don't think a normal human being can do this. To crush a man with a car? This is unbelievable. I have personally contacted the CP Edo regarding this matter. We need to take urgent action. It's deeply unsettling to me as an individual."
