SEUN KUTI ARRESTED AFTER POLICE VISIT (VIDEO)

Seun Kuti, the son of the renowned Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, was arrested and placed in handcuffs after his visit to the Lagos State police commissioner, Idowu Owohunwa, regarding an "assault video" incident.

As previously reported, the musician had promised to cooperate with the police and had voluntarily turned himself in on Monday. Accompanied by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, Seun Kuti went to meet the police commissioner.

To his surprise, he was promptly arrested and handcuffed by the police and taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at Panti for questioning.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Seun Kuti's arrest on Monday through a tweet: "SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: SEUN KUTI TURNS SELF IN. Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in the company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest in line with the law. The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved."

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, had ordered Seun's arrest after a video circulated online showing the musician assaulting a police officer.

In the viral video, Seun was engaged in a heated argument with the officer, who was standing in the middle of a busy road.

"The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and thorough investigation into the immediate and underlying causes of the assault and the prosecution of the suspect accordingly. IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt or disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated, and offenders of such crimes will be brought to book," stated Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, in a statement.

In the meantime, Seun Kuti addressed the incident on his Instagram Story on Saturday, claiming that the officer had tried to harm him and his family members. He added that the policeman had apologized, and he had chosen not to press charges.

"He tried to kill me and my family. I have evidence, but I don't seek attention. He has apologized, and I have agreed not to pursue legal action. Please mind your business so that the poor guy doesn't lose his job," wrote Kuti.

Seun also expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the police to uncover the truth. "I welcome the investigation and will provide my full cooperation! I also pray to the IG that whoever is at fault should be held accountable," the musician stated in another Instagram Story.
