SEN EKWEREMADU AND WIFE FOUND GUILTY FOR TRAFFICKING A MAN TO THE UK



A young man was trafficked to the UK by Senator Ekweremadu and his wife in order to provide their daughter with a kidney, and they were found guilty of doing so.


In the first conviction of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act in the United Kingdom, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta, were found guilty of organ trafficking. On May 5, they will be sentenced.


After a six-week trial at the Old Bailey, the former deputy senate president, his wife Beatrice, 56, and Dr. Obinna Obeta, 51, were found guilty of facilitating a young man's travel to Britain with the intention of exploiting him.


Maximum prison sentence for the offense is ten years.
