GOV SOLUDO ORDERS BANKS TO START RECEIVING OLD NAIRA NOTES

The governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo said that he Central Bank has given commercial banks the go-ahead to dispense old currency notes and accept same-as-cash deposits from clients. There is no restriction on the number of times an individual or business can make deposits; instead, tellers at commercial banks generate the codes for deposits.

On Sunday, March 12, 2023, during a meeting of the Bankers' Committee, the Governor of the CBN issued the order. During a phone call with me on Sunday night, the governor, Dr. Godwin Emefiele, formally confirmed the information above. Therefore, Anambra residents are advised to freely accept and conduct business using both the old and new currency notes (₦200, ₦500, and ₦1,000).

Any bank that declines to accept deposits of the old notes should be reported by the locals. The Anambra State Government will not only notify the CBN of such a bank but will also immediately close the defaulting branch.
