COURT AWARDS 5M TO IPOB LAWYER FOR BEING HARASSED BY DSS DURING HIS VISIT TO NNAMDI KANU

 


The Department of State Security (DSS) must pay a 5 million naira fine to IPOB lawyer Barrister Maxwell Opara Chibuike Esq for harassing and violating his human rights during his visit to IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS facility, according to the Federal High Court in Abuja. 


On September 6, 2021, Barrister Maxwell described his ordeal with the DSS, in which he was nearly stripped naked before being allowed to see his client Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. 


Hon. Justice Zainab B. Abubakar of the Federal High Court 4 delivered the judgment, declaring and holding that the DSS's action was a flagrant violation of Barrister Maxwell's rights, and awarding a cost of N5 million.


The judge also ordered the DSS to publish an unreserved apology to Barrister Maxwell Okpara Chibuike in the National Daily News papers.
