DR CHIKWE APPOINTS AS ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF WHO

 




Chief General of Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu has been named Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) accountable for Health Emergency Intelligence with impact from November 1, 2021. 


The WHO Director General, Dr Tedros said Ihekweazu will lead the work on fortifying pandemic and pestilence insight all around the world, including heading the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin. 


Ihekweazu was prepared as an irresistible sickness disease transmission specialist, has more than 20 years of involvement working in senior general wellbeing and administrative roles in a few National Public Health Institutes, including the South African National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), the United Kingdom's Health Protection Agency, and Germany's Robert Koch Institute (RKI). He has driven a few momentary commitment for WHO, mostly in light of major irresistible sickness flare-ups all throughout the planet. 


As per the profile given by WHO, Ihekweazu, is a Nigerian public, who was brought into the world in Germany. He is an alum of the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria and has a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the Heinrich-Heine University, Dusseldorf, Germany. 


In 2003, he was granted a Fellowship for the European Program for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) and consequently finished his Public Health specialization in the United Kingdom. He is broadly distributed in clinical companion survey diaries.


Dr Tedros said: “I am please to welcome Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu as an Assistant Director-General for Health Emergency Intelligence from November 1, 2021. He will lead the work on strengthening pandemic and epidemic intelligence globally, including heading the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin.
