NEW SIM CARD REGISTRATION SUSPENDED

 



The Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde was today, December 9, 2020 signed the suspension and the sale of new sim card registration until the audit exercise is concluded.


This instruction became necessary against the background of the preponderance of pre-registered Sims with the attendant security implications associated with the use of same to facilitate criminal activities in the country.


The Honourable Minister of Communication and Digital Economy has directed the Commission to embark on an audit of the Subscriber Registration Database because it was the desired of the Federal Government to consolidate the achievement of the SIM Card registration exercise.


The aim of this audit exercise is to ensure compliance to set quality standards and requirements by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).


The Network Operators are to please note that non-compliance with this directive will be met with strick sanctions, also including the possibility of withdrawal of operating license.
