A 73 year-old retired army captain, Baasey Ekanem was arrested for raping his 4 years old niece at 12 Edim Ibangaha Street, Big Qua Town in Calabar, Cross River State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred when Mr Bassey sent a lady living with him to go and buy fish at Marian market, he then lured the little girl who looks up to him as grandpa into his apartment and started fingering her and broke her hymen in the process.
He was exposed by the victim's younger brother (2 year-old) who told their mother how grandpa put his finger inside his sister's bum bum. It was their mother who raised alarm and reported the matter to Akim police station.
The suspect during interrogation claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol and couldn't understand why he committed the act.
