PORT-HARCOURT NAMED AFTER A RAPIST CALLED VERNON HARCOURT — FANI-KAYODE

The Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has narrated why Port-Harcourt and Nigeria names should be changed.

He said that Port-Harcourt was named after a rapist and a paedophile, a British Liberal Party politician who held the Colonies from 1910 to 1915, Lewis Vernon Harcourt whose nickname was "Loulou".

Port-Harcourt was originally called Igweocha as Calabar was also originally called Akanaba.

He has this to say:
"Port Harcourt was named after a British man named Lord Lewis Vernon Harcourt who was a rapist and a paedophile."

"After he was exposed and faced with public condemnation he committed suicide in his London home on February 24 1922."

"Rivers state please CHANGE the name of your capital!

He also explained why Lord Frederick Lugard and wife Flora Shaw gave Nigeria her name. Nigeria which originated from Latin word "Niger" means  "Black".

He urged Rivers State to change the name Port-Harcourt. Added that most African Nations changed theirs after independence except Nigeria

He said:
"Lord Frederick Lugard and wife Flora Shaw gave Nigeria her name. The meaning of the word "NIGERIA" from the latin word "NIGER" (meaning "BLACK") is "BLACK AREA, AREA OF DARKNESS OR BLACK SPOT". Most African nations changed their names after independence. Sadly Nigeria did not."
