The National Assembly was on Monday rocked with protests despite being on recess.
Protests were for and against President Muhammadu Buhari over his decision to suspend and investigate Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.
According to a protester at the entrance to the National Assembly complex, they stand by President Muhammadu Buhari for taking anti-corruption to its next level.
“You could see us here. We are supporting Baba Buhari for fighting corruption in high places on our behalf as Nigerians.
“We are here at the National Assembly to tell them that the lawmakers are on their own if they don’t support this administration to further tackle corruption”, a middle-aged man who identified himself as Umar Balarabe said
Meanwhile, Nigerian workers under the aegis of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, were at the National Assembly pushing for the approval of N30,000 minimum wage.
Earlier in the day, the workers slightly found it difficult to enter the NASS complex until the intervention of the management. They were seen in clusters with various inscriptions, demanding the lawmakers to approve N30,000.
A worker said, “We are not accepting anything less than N30,000 which was the amount agreed by the tripartite Committee”, he insisted.
Workers’ protests were precipitated by the public hearing on the new minimum wage at the House of Representatives on Monday.
The public hearing on the minimum wage followed a Committee which was set up by the Speaker of the House last week before both Chambers went on recess.
