UNN GRADUATES 11, 681 GRADUATES, OVER 400 PH.D STUDENTS IN 48TH CONVOCATION



A total of 11,681 students of the University of Nigeria (UNN) will be conferred with various degrees during the 48th convocation ceremony of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing marking the commencement of the Convocation ceremony in Enugu.

Giving the breakdown Ozumba said, “I am glad to announce to you that the University of Nigeria will release a total of 11, 681 graduates at the convocation. 9, 702 of them will be conferred with 1st Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates.

“The distribution is as follows: 1st Class Honour 173; 2nd Class Honour (Upper Division) 3, 725; 2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) 4, 123; 3rd Class Honours 1,306 ; Pass 76; unclassified 253 and Diploma 46”, he said.

“Let me place on record that our University will award over 400 Ph.D degrees at the 48th convocation”, he said.

Ozumba remarked that the over 400 Ph. D degree is unprecedented record ever awarded by any Nigeria university it is a single convocation.

The V.C further said that the University will confer Honorary Degrees on some eminent Nigeria for their laudable contributions to the development of the society.

According to him, highpoints of the convocation will be the conferment of the title of Professor Emeritus on Prof. Uche Azikiwe, wife of the founding father of the University who has served her meritoriously.

The V.C also used the occasion to reel out some of his achievements in office which include improvement in quality research and academic excellence.

He said that there has been a spate of progress made in the areas of ICT, environment and utility services, global rankings, structural development, staff welfare as well as collaborations and international linkages among others.

He noted that he promised to key into the culture of implementation of the philosophy of the founding fathers of this University by promoting reward and institutionalizing academic excellence when he came on board.

“It is obvious from the records that our positive efforts towards growing the University of Nigeria as an authority in the orbit of Africa’s education arena and the world at large had yielded positive results” he said.
