Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric, said on Sunday in his Facebook page on Sunday night that labeling bandits as terrorists would spell the end of Nigeria as a sovereign and cohesive nation.
Mr Gumi, a retired army military officer and mufti, recognized that the havoc wreaked by rampaging bandits in Nigeria's northwest constituted terrorism, but President Muhammadu Buhari's labeling them as such will have unintended effects that will engulf the entire country.
"The acts that the bandits are now executing in NW have steadily become tantamount with time."
