25 HERDSMEN PRISONERS RELEASED, CONVERT AND REVISED DEATH SENTENCES ON THEM — GOV EL-RUFAI

 



The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai was on Independent Day October 1, 2020 announced the release of 25 herdsmen prisoners and converting of death sentences for some convicted armed robbers to life imprisonment.


The Governor marked Nigeria 60th Independence anniversary and used the medium to release 25 herdsmen prisoners, convert and revised death sentences on them.


Governor El-Rufai said: “on governance and how powers and responsibilities are devolved between the states and the Federal Government.”


“As we mark the diamond jubilee of our country’s freedom, it is customary that we extend a gesture of mercy to some persons (Fulani prisoners) that are serving their sentences in prisons within Kaduna State.”


“Based on this decision, 25 convicts are to be released with immediate effect, while others have had their sentences reduced, including converting of death sentences for some convicted armed robbers to life imprisonment.”


In a related development, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on Thursday granted pardon to five Herdsmen convicts.
