GENOTYPE TEST COMPULSORY BEFORE MARRIAGE IN ANAMBRA STATE


Anambra State House of Assembly passed a bill making Genotype test compulsory for anyone who wants to get married in Anambra State in order to reduce the rate of sickle on the society. 

The bill was passed on Tuesday with the members of Anaocha II constituency which was sponsored by Charles Ezeani and 15 others.

The new Law stated that before parents or guardians will give out their consent for the marriage of their children, they must undergo genotype test. 

Also added that no religious body or marriage register will perform the solemnisation of Holy matrimony without demanding for certificate of genotype test.

Whoever that go contrary to this law shall be guilty of an offence and is liable on the conviction of a ₦200,000 fine or three years imprisonment. 

The aim of passing this law was to reduce the rate of sickle patients and to prevent unnecessary death in the State.
