A MUST READ: RACISM IN NIGERIA

I heard a Yoruba Woman once say

"Take the Igbos out and your community would become empty"

How can we win the war against racism when we still internal tribalism scourge to face off, I hear some Lazy and unreasonable ones among the Yorubas wailing that the Igbos has taken over their lands.

My question to these group of people is "Are these Igbo people acquiring these lands for free"? These lands and properties are sold to the Igbos at an outrageous prices but yet they complain about the Igbos taking over their lands.

After the Civil ended in 15 January 1970 , the Igbos was really devasted and left with absolutely nothing. The Igbos are left with no food, shelter and lands destroyed, even most of the money the Igbos had in several banks across the country was confiscated. Immediately after the war, the Igbos started making efforts to heal their wounds, picking up from where they started. The Igbos started leaving their villages and homes which have been left devasted by the war, they started traveling to other States in the country especially Lagos.

Arriving Lagos as an Man Immediately after the war was an awful experience, other tribes started dreading the Igbos. Trying to survive became an Herculean task because they won't give the Igbos jobs or make them handle some strategic key positions. You would hear most of them say, "when we give them tomorrow now they will all leave".

This suffering, segregation, dejection and tribalism led to the Igbo Business evolution. Before the civil war, the Igbos used to be the most educated, holding key positions in the civil society. After the civil war things changed drastically, even the graduates who were holding keys positions before the war all lost their jobs. So the Igbos adopted business as their new major source of livelihood, they said to themselves, since they won't offer us jobs, we will make them buy from us. With time the Igbos became so progressive in business, started inviting their relatives for apprenticeship. The Igbos kept waxing stronger in this new found livelihood, they started acquiring lands and properties all over the country, spreading their business across the nation especially Lagos. They were able to turn their devastation into wealth, riches and productivity.

And what do we have today? The same people they have refused to offer them  jobs after the war are the same people wailing that the Igbos are taking over their lands and clamoring that the Igbos should leave. The soldiers came to their land, destroyed it and left them devasted because they asked for their freedom. And now they got over the devastation to develop themselves. They came to foreign lands and places to live, develop and spread their business some group of people are clamoring a foul play.

I think other tribes should grow some balls too like the Igbos, they should leave their comfort zones, and travel to the East bring out money to buy up lands and properties from the Igbos. They should as well take the risk like the Igbos to invest in the East, I'm sure the Igbo locals would never refuse a good offer to buy their land or property for investment.

These group of people clamoring that the Igbos should leave are all bunch of lazy and unreasonable set of people, they should grow some balls and try what the Igbos did and let's see if they will still be standing. We are one Nigeria, let's not allow tribalism and sentiments to drive us apart or distract us from achieving our goals. The actual truth is that we all need each other to grow, Nigeria can only grow if we work together and have a common interest and goals.
